Alex â CHAPTER 13
Allieâs hand glided down Reeseâs stomach, fingers trailing back up to skim across her breasts. âIâve missed you. Missed your body.â Allie snuggled in closer before letting out a sigh of contentment. âBeing able to see you only once in two years was hard. But thankfully, thatâs behind us. I canât wait to wake up beside you every morning and fall asleep in your arms every night.â
âI love holding you as you drift off to sleep.â Reggie grabbed the cover and threw it across their bodies. âBeing away from you isnât something I relish thinking about.â
The tips of Allieâs fingers continued to glide across Reeseâs breasts, methodically circling her nipples. Their bodies were so in sync that it only took the slightest of touches to ignite a wildfire.
Reese groaned as she grabbed Allieâs hand. âYou have to stop touching me like that if we have any hope of getting out of this bed and being on time for dinner with my parents.â
Allie smiled mischievously. âWho said anything about being on time? Iâve always thought it best to arrive fashionably late to all functions.â
âYou know we canât be late. I want to introduce you to my parents. I want them to love you as much as I do, and being late will not endear you to them. My mother is a stickler for being on time. Her philosophy is if youâre on time, youâre late. Anything less than ten minutes early is considered late.â Reese pressed a kiss to Allieâs cheek before sliding out of bed.
From the comfort of emerald green Egyptian cotton sheets and fluffy pillows, Allie watched Reese slip on her robe and nervously pace around the room. Reese was doing her best to cover her nervousness by tidying up the already spotless room. Something was clearly bothering her.
Allie sat up, wrapped the sheet around her, and cleared her throat. âHey, you. Care to tell me whatâs going on in that brain of yours? Iâm sensing nerves, and Iâm not sure why.â
âEverything is fine. Iâm a little jet-lagged, is all. I would much rather stay in bed with you than have dinner with my parents. I suspect my father will take the opportunity to pull me aside for a talk. A performance review of sorts.â
âYou spent two years doing what he asked you to do. Doing it very successfully, I might add. So why would the possibility of talking to him be a bad thing?â
âNormally, it wouldnât be. But my father isnât big on normal. He always has an agenda. Iâm just hoping Iâm not part of that agenda.â
âWhat do you mean?â Allie gave Reese a puzzled look. âI feel like Iâm missing something. What arenât you telling me?â
Reese tossed a couple of pillows out of the way and sat on the bed facing Allie. âFor the last several months, my father has been hinting about the possibility of me staying in France rather than returning to the States.â
âWhat? Are you kidding me right now?â Allie launched off the bed.
